Gumball 2010: Gumball 3000 arrival in New York Video

This could very well be the best video of this years Gumball 3000 that went from London to New York! After the Mini safely returned to Amsterdam I flew out to New York City to attend the finish of the rally. But this would not be complete without bringing the Gumballers in so I made a couple calls and soon found Nick that I met on the Great American Run in 2007 willing to pick me up from JFK airport in his modified 996 Turbo and head out of town to intercept the Gumballers somewhere along the route from Toronto to the finish in Times Square, New York.

After we left the city and the traffic behind us we stopped somewhere along the I-80 to meet up with Blair and Jason in their 997 Turbo. Not long after we got back on the road we saw the two-tone Maserati Quattroporte and the black Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 zip passed on the other side. We quickly turned at the next exit and found a place to stop next to the interstate to wait for the other cars. Soon more cars passed by including Ezra in the Bentley Continental GT, but Jason who brought his camera out preferred to wait for Jon Olsson’s Lamborghini LP670-SV. Luckily that didn’t take long and they were in great company with the red/yellow Gran Turismo and my friends Jenny & Vincent in the BMW M5.

We jumped in the car and rushed after them to catch up with them in a way that slightly reminded me of the classic video where IMV Films chases Lonman in the Gumball 3000 years ago. After we caught up Jason took some photos from the sunroof of the 997 Turbo and soon were joined by the green Bentley Continental GT that upped the pace a bit. We had great fun driving, as a European it’s hard to understand you are allowed to undertake cars in the US, although probably not at the speeds we did! Sadly we hit a lot of traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel but the Maserati and Lamborghini LP670 SV kept us entertained with their insane soundtracks!

After we made our way to the Lincoln Tunnel and explained to pretty much every American that was stuck in traffic with us what this Gumball thing was about we pulled over at the end to wait for some friends to join up. As soon as they arrived we continued the last few kilometers to Times Square where the attention was enormous. It’s probably one of the most bizarre and overwhelming settings for a rally to finish!

And to top the great day two of our friends, Jenny and Vincent, who drove the Monaco BMW M5 from London to New York, got married at the finish line on Times Square!!
