Video of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible (Team 32) being pulled over by the police. The two American Porsche Turbo’s (Team 23 & 84) can continue without a problem. The police was very strict on the way to Dover and at some point slowed down all traffic on the highway by driving with two police cars next to eachother below the speed limit.
The Gumball 3000 was back on VTM this weekend. Last year the Belgian TV station VTM reported about the previous edition of the rally, and they still call it a race and mess up their facts and figures. But the funny thing about this years report is that one Ferrari got away with doing 227 km/h because the police was to busy fining other Gumballers.
The Gumball 3000 plane just landed in Athens, currently taxiing to the gate (17.30 CET). The Gumballers can collect their cars at the airport and then make their way to the Athens Hilton hotel. Tonight some of the Gumball cars will be on display at the Zappio, which is a crazy location in the National gardens a short journey from the hotel. At night there’s a White Party on the Top Floor of the Hilton hotel.
In the meantime Team Aytac, Team Turkish Taxi and Team 15 are still on the road towards Athens. We will keep you updated on their progress.
Update 21:00 CET:
Gumballers still at Athens airport waiting for all cars to clear customs. All agree, party in Istanbul last night was great!
Update 21:32 CET:
Cars will be released tomorrow morning, Gumballers going to the Hilton now.
Team 2 (Jay Kay (Jamiroquai) & Nigel Cooper) skipped the flight to Istanbul and drove straight from Frankfurt-Hahn to Bratislava. A GTspirit member spotted the Maserati Quattroporte on the highway towards Bratislava. The live tracker revealed that they stayed in Munchen overnight and arrived in Bratislava 10 minutes ago.
The reason why they skipped the flight to Istanbul is not known at the moment, but we will let you know as soon as we find out!
Team Fast Car (car 100) is back in the UK. Glenn Rowswell and Jamie Burr only drove to Hahn Airport. Here’s their full story:
Just to let you guys know that Team Fast Car and the Nissan Skyline Tokyo Highway Pursuit car are back in the UK. We were initially down just for the first leg, but after problems in Germany we were ordered by German Police to take the plane to Istanbul and leave the country immediately. Otherwise we faced the car being impounded (possibly crushed) and being locked up if they saw us on German roads again. After already being fined 420 Euros, we knew this was more than just an idle threat.
The Gumball went through Germany and nearly every car got caught by the cops. We all paid €450.00 fine. They got 60 cars together so they could pretend they did a good job, then they filmed it for the press!! Then they rang the Turkish police and made out we were all nicked for speeding so the Turkish then decided they didn’t want the Gumball in Turkey, so the Gumballers all ended up in Turkey and the cars ended up going straight to Athens in Greece!
So Team Fuel went out on the town with Danny Dyer and Tam and the girls, true to form, went mental the whole night! This was the party of all parties, ending with a party in a beautiful suite for the real nutters that went on till 8am this morning!
